Mean Well HLG Driver
LED lighting systems are like any other working system out there, they are only as good as their internal working parts.
The Mean Well HLG series drivers are the flagship line of constant current and constant voltage LED power solutions from Mean Well. They take AC line voltage from 90~305VAC and convert it to constant current or constant voltage for your LEDs.
COBs (chip on board LEDs) are becoming very popular for horticulture. COBs run at higher voltages and require a driver that can handle the larger load. Indoor grow areas can also be very hot and/or damp, therefore needing the IP67 rated Mean Well driver.

What is PAR and PPFD?
PAR is the photosynthetic active radiation. The wavelengths that make up the PAR are between 400 and 700 nm used for photosynthesis. (PAR is not the measure of all of the light a grow light gives off, but the measurement of the wavelengths plants will absorb. )
PPF is the flow of photosynthetic photons. It’s expressed in micromoles per second (µmol / s) and is the quantity of PAR photons emitted per second in the light beam.
PPFD is the flux density of photosynthetic photons. It is expressed in micromoles per second per m² (µmol / s / m²). It allows us to quantify on a given surface, at a given distance from the illumination, the number of PAR photon incidents per second.

ViparSpectra XS1500 Review
Let’s start this ViparSpectra XS1500 Review with the only con I have seen anyone mention about the this LED grow light.
There is no On/Off switch. I don’t know about you, but I use a timer on my grow lights. I actually like that there is no On/Off switch, one less thing to worry about.
I did receive this LED Grow light from ViparSpectra for free in order for me to do this ViparSpectra XS1500 Review. I do have to say for transparency, but our agreement was that my review and results would not be influenced.

- The hanging kit and adjustable rope hangers come in very useful and not cheaply constructed. It’s everything you will need to hang the light and be able to adjust height.
The ViparSpectra XS1500 LED Grow Light is an excellent indoor grow light for a Two Feet by Two Feet indoor grow area. It is well-built, easy to use, generates an excellent distribution of light and has great efficiency for the full spectrum light output.
In 2 feet x 2 feet PAR test, the ViparSpectra 150W XS1500 produced an average PPFD of 1167µmol/m2/s at 14″ hanging height, which is excellent. The full spectrum light distribution is also great, as you can see in the PAR map. This indoor LED Grow Light easily covers a four square feet grow area, distributing high density light evenly.
Suggested Dimming:
– 40% During 3-5 Day Acclimation Period at a height of 24″ to 28″, using 10 on and 14 off
– 60% During Seedling or Young Vegetative stage at a height of 20″ to 24″, using 12 on and 12 off
– 100% During Vegetative Stage at a height of 16″ to 20″, using 18 on and 6 off
– 100% During Flowering Stage at a height of 12″ to 16″, using 12 on and 12 off
Bottom line on this ViparSpectra XS1500 review, it’s a great light for a 2′ by 2′ indoor grow. If you are looking for an affordable LED grow light either for a small space or for raising your seedlings, this ViparSpectra 150W XS1500 is an almost unbeatable deal. If you are trying to start small on a budget, getting one of these lights is a great plan, and should be your top pick for a 2’ x 2’ indoor grow.
